Helen Hughes returned to live in Ireland in 2002 after a number of years spent in London where she studied Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art, graduating in 1998.

Her practice has evolved from painting to making sculpture and site-specific installations. She is drawn to the use of industrially produced, disposable and often brightly coloured materials and goods that are generally visible and in abundance in the world around us. She works with these materials intuitively to produce sculptures and installations that mark her difference in an everyday way on the products of commercial systems.
